❥ Folkmore Roles & Attributes

Skills:
  • swordfighting
  • military strategy
  • speaks High Valyrian
  • mounted combat (both dragon and horseback)
Canon Abilities: He can ride a dragon because of his Targaryen blood
    Role: Myth
Role Qualities/Attributes: Eventually I would like Aemond to manifest some more dragon-like characteristics (particularly horns) but I would like it to be something that happens over time and not immediately.
    Role Reasoning:

Aemond is a textbook myth. He’s cold to those he doesn’t know and downright cruel to some. He will do anything to advance his own interests, including killing his own nephew and ensuring his brother, Aegon II, is crippled and bedridden from an attack by Aemond’s dragon. Aemond is power-hungry and seeks what he thinks will make him happy: the Iron Throne. I suspect it would not actually make him happy because Aemond is restless, temperamental, and always feels as if he is wanting or lacking somehow in spite of any accomplishments he has achieved either in diplomacy or battle.

None of these things would change upon arriving in Folkmore. He may not be in Westeros but he would still hunger for power, any sort of power, and would set himself on a course to achieve it swiftly.

  • ❥ Personality

Option 1. Summarize your character's personality in general and what their full potential would look like to them and what they would be willing to go through to meet that potential and what gaining that potential would mean to them. 400-800 word requirement.

Aemond is ambitious and finds himself to be in the midst of quite a few claimants to the Iron Throne, all of which he sees as obstacles in his way. He is a second son, his father may or may not have named his brother or his half-sister the heir, and the chaos of the realm is something that he feeds on. Aemond seeks power in whatever way that he can get it even though obtaining that power still leaves him empty inside.

Unlike his other siblings, Aemond claimed a dragon later in his childhood and until he did, was the subject of vicious teasing and mockery. Childhood cruelty shaped him into the man he is today, someone who does not care about killing kin over anyone else - everyone is an enemy except himself. He does have a weakness for his mother and sister, two people who have never tried to hurt him, but the rest of his convoluted family are simply pieces on the board to be eliminated.

Aemond is hard and cold to those he doesn’t know and is often still cold to those that he does know. He wears his reputation like honor - even if he accidentally killed his cousin Lucerys, he will claim it as purposeful. He doesn’t let his guard down often and when he does, he is incredibly vulnerable and angry if anyone sees it. His sister, Helaena, often sees through his posturing and questions his motives, something he allows because his sister is seen as soft-hearted and half in dreams.

As a Targaryen, Aemond is extremely vain and proud. He believes his lineage is simply better than anyone else’s and that he has a divine right to rule over men simply because of his name and ability to ride a dragon. He is especially judgmental of bastards and often makes mention of the fact that his nephews are such; a person’s worth is their name and a bastard has no name.

Ultimately, Aemond’s cruelty and posturing is a veneer to cover up someone who is actually quite insecure about his position within his family and the realm. He seizes power wherever he can get it and reaches for the crown because he thinks it will make him happy. He is ruthless and can back up his ambition by riding the largest dragon in the realm. Stripped of that, he is no one, and Aemond simply cannot stand the thought of being no one.

Aemond has already given one eye in the course of his story and to get what he wants, what he truly wants, he would not hesitate to give another. He will kill, steal, and manipulate to advance his position and is someone who would be restless in Folkmore, always pushing the envelope to achieve bigger and better things and to stand just a little higher than everyone else. Being away from Westeros is a great equalizer and he will chafe at it, hate it, and fight head to head with it in order to make himself who he believes he ought to be.
